Tribute to Scott’s parents—Missionaries, Dr. Phillip and Dr. Charlotte Allen

Greetings Pastor and Fellow Laborers, March~April 2021

"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;" (2Co. 1:3).

In December 2019, my—Scott mother passed from this temporal life “into life eternal” (Mt. 25:46b). Donna and I could not leave the mission field at the time but stayed the course, trusting in “the God of all comfort” (2Co. 1:3). Dad silently suffered the loss of his wife of sixty years to the point of being rushed to the hospital, almost following her into Glory that very day. All the while, he had been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.

Fifteen months later, dad had survived beyond the two years life expectancy given him by his doctor. However, the cancer was now rapidly carrying out its end results, spreading to multiple other organs throughout his body. And in late 2020, Donna and I began preparing to return to the US, trusting and believing God would allow us time with dad before the inevitable. Meanwhile, due to the pandemic, our flight plans were canceled three times during about six months. The last “cancelation” occurring merely two weeks before our departure date.

As we reflect upon all that has transpired thus far, we can’t help but praise God for granting us “the desires of thine (our) heart” (Ps. 37:4). We arrived in the US near the end of March, and God gave us nine days with dad, with at least two “good” days. Soon he was assigned “at-home hospice care,” and his health quickly declined. Our Pastor, Derik Lawrence, had scheduled dad to preach on Palm Sunday, March 28. And we praise the Lord for allowing us to be present, as it happened that God had foreordained that day for dad to preach his last message.

Dad died peacefully at home, sitting in his recliner, on April 5, the day after “Resurrection Sunday.”

Please see our "Events" page to watch dad preach his last message; "Three Unchangeable Things."

Thank you all for your faithfulness and prayers on our behalf,

Scott and Donna Allen | 2Ti. 4:8
